This map is compiled from a hand-drawn photocopy (made by J Brimfield 4/12/1997)of a map made by FJ Bevis de Vitie (lieutenant Colonel C.R.E.) of the WW1 camps on Winnall Down, dated 9th April 1919.
The map gives detailed locations of the various buildings in two camps, The Magdalen Hill Camp and Avington Park Camp, and their uses during the period 1914 to 1919. The map is a work in progress as some of the buildings on the map do not indicate their usage and on others, the code letters matching the legend cannot be deciphered.
For those not familiar with Google maps the mouse wheel or the + – signs (bottom left) can be used to scroll in and out of the map. Clicking on the square top right with open the map in a new tab. Clicking the square with an arrow pointing to the right (top left) with open a dropdown list of WW1 camp items shown on the map.
