Robert Chares Wood Private 7397 2nd Bn The Kings Royal Rifle Corps died November 14th 1914.
He was the son of Louisa Wood. Robert was born in 1888 when Louisa and her husband, Robert Charles, were living at 16 Upper Wolvesey Terrace, Winchester. We lose track of the father as he is not mentioned in the 1901 census when Louisa is living at 5 Cross Street Winchester, or in the 1911 census when Louisa is living at Fernleigh, Gordon Avenue, Highcliffe Park. The only immediate family listed in 1911 is her daughter Adeline May.
Robert married Mary J McKenzie in 1914. Enlisted in Winchester in 1906. Served in Flanders. Killed in action on November 14 1914 at Ypres. Commemorated at Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. Ypres (Ieper) West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. (PR Panels 51 and 53). Memorial at All saints church Winchester.
